The Mot test was first implemented in 1960 for vehicles over ten years old, to reduce accidents caused by vehicle failure.
A lot has changed since then; many additions have been made to the list of things checked and tolerances have changed for the wear and tear.
Now we must have an MOT every year on vehicles older that three years.
Today of course we also have the green element of the test to check the pollution levels of the exhaust gasses.

Without an MOT your insurance is invalid and you could face a fine of up to 1000 pounds.
You can drive your car without an MOT but only under two circumstances, On the way to an MOT station for a pre booked test or to a workshop for repairs to be made to your vehicle in relation to your MOT.
I shall try and point you in the right direction of what to look for so that your car does not fail for something that you could have fixed yourself for next to nothing.
